GRAND KRU COUNTY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION IN THE AMERICAS
About GKCDAA
The Grand Kru County Development Association in the Americas (GKCDAA) was founded in the early 2000s by a group of proud sons and daughters of Grand Kru County living in the United States. Driven by a passion to give back and preserve their rich cultural heritage, these trailblazers united to form an association that would serve as a voice and a bridge between the diaspora and their homeland in southeastern Liberia.
What began as informal gatherings among families and friends soon grew into a strong, organized community. With a shared commitment to cultural preservation, education, and development, GKCDAA was officially established with a clear mission: to uplift Grand Kru County through diaspora engagement, resource mobilization, and advocacy.
Over the years, GKCDAA has held annual conventions across North America, providing opportunities for networking, celebrating Kru culture, and raising funds for vital projects in Liberia. From supplying schools with books and materials to supporting health clinics and offering scholarships, the Association has made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
GKCDAA has also formed meaningful partnerships with local organizations in Liberia, other diaspora communities, and international supporters. These collaborations have strengthened the Association’s ability to respond to urgent needs and contribute to long-term development in the region.
Today, GKCDAA continues to grow as a dynamic platform for service, unity, and transformation. We remain deeply committed to our roots, our people, and our purpose—building a brighter future for Grand Kru County through collective action.
Request for Support to Improve Learning Conditions at Underprivileged Schools in Grand Kru County
Schools located in the remote areas of Grand Kru County, Liberia, face significant challenges in providing a conducive learning environment for their students. Grand Kru County faces economic and infrastructure challenges. There is poor infrastructure development. There are inadequate roads, transportation, and communication networks, which isolate the community and limit access to resources. Due to the deplorable road network and difficulties accessing the region couple with inadequate transport means for taking supplies and goods to the area, creates hardship for inhabitants in this region of Liberia.
Students are forced to sit on the floor during lessons and learning in makeshift edifices, which severely impacts their ability to learn effectively. This proposal seeks support to provide 10,000 classroom chairs and renovation of three school buildings to improve the learning conditions and promote a quality teaching and learning environment. There is a need for improved education to address the human resource gaps in the region.
We kindly request your assistance in making this initiative a reality. Your support will have a lasting positive impact on the education and lives of our students. The renovation of the 3 buildings and providing these chairs will help create a more conducive learning environment, promote equity in education, and improve the overall well-being of the students. Systemic inequalities, such as limited access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, have perpetuated poverty and disparities in the region.
